POSITION OVERVIEW
The Portfolio Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Portfolio Management team in all aspects of the portfolio management of a core, open-end, discretionary, actively managed real estate investment fund that invests in office, industrial, multifamily and retail properties across the United States. The fund is a member of the NCREIF ODCE Fund index.
QUALIFICATIONS
- College degree, preferably in an investment- or quantitatively oriented discipline
- Solid understanding of investment theory and quantitative methods (CFA level I or higher preferred, but will consider CFA Level I candidates)
- 1-2 years investment experience in private equity commercial real estate preferred
- Ability to write quickly and effectively for external audiences, with a strong grasp of grammar, syntax and style
- Working knowledge of information systems a plus (but not required)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Efficiently and accurately complete detailed consultant and investor requests for quantitative information about the fund
- Support the portfolio management team in producing fund cash flow projections and performing research about the economy, local and national real estate markets, and existing and potential fund investments
- Work effectively with others across various departments to provide support or guidance, or to obtain needed information
- Work with in-house IT department to improve and further automate existing return attribution and other reporting and information systems
- Participate in discussions about fund strategy and investments
- Participate (and occasionally present) in presentations to consultants, prospective investors, and the New York Life real estate investment committee
- Assist in completing various, frequent ad hoc requests, working effectively with others where needed
- Occasionally travel for property visits and real estate conferences
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Strong working knowledge of Excel
- Ability to analyze and summarize large amounts of information, identifying key components and making informed estimates where needed
- Ability to effectively work with others, including senior management and various individuals in asset management, acquisitions, accounting, research, legal, and IT departments
- Ability to work independently, and prioritize decisions and tasks that will be most impactful for the organization
