The CalSTRS Investment Branch is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Associate Portfolio Manager in the Fixed Income Unit. 

The Investments Branch manages the investment portfolio for the nation’s second largest public pension fund; providing retirement, disability and survivor benefits to California’s more than 949,000 K-12 teachers, plus community college educators and their families. This branch is responsible for managing all investment activities to ensure performance objectives are met. The branch consists of the following units: Corporate Governance, Fixed Income, Global Equity, Inflation Sensitive, Risk Mitigating Strategies, Innovative Strategies and Risk, Investment Operations, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Administration.

The Fixed Income Unit is dedicated to maximizing risk-adjusted total return within a multi-asset class portfolio. They provide value through innovative/active asset allocation and bond selection by taking advantage of internally and externally managed strategies. The fixed income portfolio is managed using both enhanced and active strategies. In addition, several portfolios and programs including Global Inflation, Cash Management, Securities Lending and Currency Management reside within the Fixed Income unit.

Under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager, the incumbent provides independent analysis and consultation regarding development and implementation of various risk management, investment program strategies, processes and controls for the CalSTRS Interest Rates, Inflation Sensitive and Long Duration US Treasury Portfolios (Portfolios). The incumbent will consult on, recommend and participate in the implementation of asset allocation and various credit strategies consistent with policies and procedures.

Effective July 1, this position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 45% of base salary. 

An Associate Portfolio Manager who possesses a professional certification in one of the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analysts (CAIA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential. Only one 5% base pay differential is eligible regardless of the number of certifications.
